Things You'll Need

  • Comb
  • Weaving cap
  • Wefted virgin Indian hair extensions
  1. Comb and braid clean hair into medium-sized cornrows going from front to back or making a circle around your head. Each cornrow should measure between 1/2 to 1 inch thick.
  2. Excessively thick cornrows will cause your weave to sit high on your head or look lumpy.
  3. Place a weaving cap over your braided hair. Tuck the ends of the braids under the cap.
  4. Measure the length of track you will need for the first row by placing a weft from ear to ear across the back of the weaving cap. Mark the end with your fingers, and cut the track with scissors.
  5. Push your threaded needle through the middle of the top weft at one end of the extension. Pull it through until you reach the knot in the thread. Pass the needle under the weaving cap, and pull it up until the weft is against your head. Repeat this process until you reach the end of the row. Knot the thread, and cut it with scissors.
  6. Sew additional rows across the back of your head, moving up about 1/2 inch for each row. Knot the end of each row to secure the tracks into place. Continue this process until you reach ear level on your head.
  7. Begin sewing rows in full circles around your head when you reach ear level. Line the front of the first circle with the edge of the weaving cap. Sew full circles 1/2 inch apart until you reach the top of your head and have covered everything but a small circle with a 1-inch diameter.
  8. Cut a 2-inch track of the unused wefted hair to close the weave. Roll this track onto itself so the top of the weft is shaped like a cinnamon roll. Pass your needle and thread through the circle from left to right five times to maintain this shape. Catch the center of the roll with your needle as well so it will not lift or unroll. Knot the thread and cut it when finished.
  9. Use a flat iron to flatten the closure with top of the wefts facing downward.
  10. Position the closure into the small uncovered circle, and secure it by passing the needle and thread downward through the outer weft, under the cap and up through the weft of the surrounding track. Repeat around the entire circle to close the weave.
  11. Cut and style the weave as you desire.
